“The ability to wear a burka in public in certain European countries has been in discussions for some time now. & while Belgium already voted for a total ban of wearing burkas in public, focus has now been put on France.
France will soon become the second European country to outlaw Muslim women from wearing burkas.
France has just voted unanimously in favor of a formal resolution to ban the wear of burkas & will most likely be made into law later this July.
The head of the parliamentary group of President Nicolas Sarkozy’s UMP party stated:
“This is an important day. We have an important rendezvous with the
values of the (French) republic. The resolution is to explain, the law is to decide.”
As for the resolution, it states “radical practices which violate the dignity & equality between men & women, such as the wearing of the full veil, are contrary to the values of the republic.”
And there will be consequences for those who choose to disobey the ban. Women might be faced with paying fines & men forcing them to wear it could spend up to a year in jail if convicted.
Though politicians are insisting the ban of burkas is mainly a security issue, while human rights & Muslim activists claim the decision is violating religious freedoms.”
The Muslim religion tells us that burkas (burqas, burkha, burquas) are garments worn by women for the purpose of hiding a female’s body when out in public.
Muslim religion also tells us that “faithful women” are to “lower their gazes”, “guard their private parts,” cover their ta-tas, & are NOT to display their BEAUTY (except to “their husbands, their fathers, their husband’s fathers, their sons, their husband’s sons, their brothers, their brothers’ sons, their sisters’ sons, their womenfolk, what their right hands rule [slaves], or the followers from the men who do not feel sexual desire” (HA okayyy riiight?!), “or the small children to whom the nakedness of women is not apparent.”)
In the Muslim world, preventing women from being seen by men is linked to the concept of Namus, (discribed as an ethical category or a virtue) which is a strongly gender-specific category of relations within a family discribed in terms of honor, attention, respectability, & modesty. So, pretty much, you’re a dishonorable hoebag if you don’t cover up with a burka… Oh, please!
(: I’m sooo happy to see France & Belgium publically recognize what these head-to-toe coverings really are: INSULTING to the fight for women’s rights.
On a side note, did you know the burka is not enforced presently by the Afghanistan regime? HOWEVER, the TALIBAN always seems to think they can take the law into their own hands, & they enforce it’s wear in most of Southern Afghanistan. So, even though it’s not required by law, if southern Afghan women value their safety, they’d better cover up.
The burka is not the only thing the Taliban requires of its women. Taliban women are NOT to attend school & are NOT to be employed. They are NOT to clap during sporting events. They are NOT to play sports. Well, really… WTF are they supposed to do?? Want to know the punishments of the Taliban? I can assure you that you don’t…. Obviously execution, whether public or not. Also, amputations of hand(s) or feet & public stonings & beatings.
Just one of the many reasons I support the war in Afghanistan. Save the Afghanistan people from these EXTREMISTS (or psycho Taliban freaks). Save them from living in fear.<3
