A “Red Balloon” Twofer

I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but if you are, you probably find the ‘original’ version of that song 99 Red Balloons to be rather, well, blah.   It’s just an average pop song that got tons of radio play.   Until punk comes into the picture.  Today’s song of the day is actually two songs, it is 99 Red Balloons, done by Goldfinger, a ska punk band and then 7 Seconds, a hardcore punk band.   I think both of these versions blow the original out of the water, and I hope I can get that agreement alluded to by my favorate naysayer. 😉

As much as I love the original versions (both English & German) of this song and the videos that were in heavy rotation during the early days of MTv (they were mostly of the band performing, a few balloon shots and some close-ups of Gabriele Kerner, who was a smoldering babe) I must admit that I dig Goldfinger’s version of this tune as well.

They play with energy that is truly infectious, and I really like their 90’s tune “Here In Your Bedroom”, it reminds me of a pretty fun time in my life.

Any re-mix is better than the original of THIS song! Always hated it – turned off the radio when I hear it! Wayyy too Pop/Bubble Gum for my taste.

Just rebroadcasting it for the people on the new site. And it’s always fun to hear it again. Glad you enjoyed it. And I feel special that I influenced your music choices. 😀

  4. I agree. I like Goldfingers version better.
