Bush Was Right, Volume 202,964

The Obama Administration’s reversal on the subject of military tribunals at Gitmo for the 9/11 terrorists are just the latest example of how our 43rd President displayed impressive vision & wisdom, even if his successor will never admit it verbally – he constantly confirms it with his actions & the Bush policies that he continues to employ despite criticizing them all while running for President, and we all know that actions speak much louder than words.

Well, now. What do we have here? Yet another example that President George W. Bush was right.

Today, Attorney General Eric Holder gave an incredibly petulant press conference, in which he whined about Congress being a co-equal branch of government and claimed to know more than, well, everybody else who ever lived.

He ripped on Congress for tying his hands on Team Obama’s attempt to try terrorists in civilian courts. First, Obama n’ Holder floated the idea of trying top al Qaeda terrorists Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Ramzi Binalshibh and others in civilian court in New York City. After a dramatic pause of disbelief, even friendly-to-Obama politicians like Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and now-Governor Andrew Cuomo panned the idea as unworkable, irresponsible, and a security nightmare. (Interestingly, none of the Democrats raised the real objection, which is that these terrorists are enemy combatants, not POWS, who are not entitled to the full range of Constitutional rights.)

So Holder and Obama went back to the drawing board. What to do? What to do?? Obama campaigned on not only trying these terrorists in civilian courts but closing Guantanamo. Now, with just about every Democrat joining Republicans across the country to oppose bringing KSM et al. to their backyard, Team O was stuck.

Today, they were forced to admit that Bush was right. Again.

Although you’d never know it from Holder’s foot-stomping temper tantrum today. A few weeks ago, Obama “joked” that it would be so much “better” to be the “president of China.” In other words, it would be better to have no opposition party, no free press, no dissent. Be a commie, and have a free hand! Holder’s comments today reflected that same dictator-impulse. He endlessly moaned about Congress placing “unwise and unwarranted restrictions” on his and Obama’s ability to parade KSM into a NYC courtroom. But he was REALLY complaining about that pesky Constitutional three-branch-of-government thing.

The most hilarious part of the presser was when Holder whined about how much smarter he was than every member of Congress: “Do I know better than them? Yes.” Then he said, “I respect their ability to disagree but they should respect that this is an executive branch function, a unique executive branch function.” He doesn’t respect them or he wouldn’t have complained about them all afternoon.

So Obama was caught between Barack and a hard place. He had to agree to yet ANOTHER Bush counterterrorism policy. The other policies he’s kept?

Keeping Guantanamo Bay open and functioning.

Continuing the indefinite detention of terrorist suspects.

Continuing the rendition of terrorist suspects to third countries for—yes—interrogation.

Continuing warrantless and roving wiretaps of terrorist suspects.

And continuing military tribunals to try them.

As Obama and Holder just acknowledged again today, President Bush and Vice President Cheney established critical and necessary precedents to deal with this kind of enemy in this kind of war.

I think they deserve a big THANK YOU note, don’t you, Mr. President?
